In today's Doctor Who, Otaku, and Video Games challenges, I tell you about a fansite I've never visited, about a fanfic I can sparsely remember, and a game that disappointed me so much I never even thought to finish the damn thing. So if you feel an overwhelming sense of redundancy today, that indicates only that your brain is working quite well. But if ever there was a word to describe these 30 Day Challenges, "redundant" would be one.
A Who-related fansite.
Blogtor Who. Never actually been to the website. I just asked a friend just now, "what's a Doctor Who fansite?" And he said Blogtor Who. As far as I can tell, it's a man who blogs about Doctor Who, who calls himself "Blogtor". He does review Doctor Who episodes, which is actually pretty awesome - he does them spoiler-free, which is good; he also does Episode commentary over new episodes. Not entirely sure if he's worth listening to, but his website has a good layout and he's a good writer, so there we go. Blogtor Who. Woo. Puns.
Otaku Challenge, Day 22
Tell us about the craziest fanfic you've ever read.
Well, I can't tell you what it was, because I have in all likelyhood forgotten it. But I can almost 100% garuntee you it had something to do with that crazy fetish I told you about two days ago. The one that probably scared the crap out of y'all. It was probably one relating to that, and was probably about Touhou. That's all I can garuntee, as for the actual fanfic itself, I have either forgotten it entirely or, perhaps, never read it at all. But they're the sparse details I could remember - macrophiliac in nature and most likely about Touhou; probably in manga form.
Video Game Challenge, Day 22
A game sequel which disappointed you.
At first I was going to say Mafia II, which is deathly boring in almost every aspect of its design, but I was never a massive fan of the original Mafia. So instead I'll take a sequel to a game that I loved: Half-Life 2: Episode One.
I love Half-Life 2. So going in to play Episode One, I was pretty pumped. The intro was amazing - an on-rails ride with Dog and Alyx through the collapsing Combine citadel. But then... it got terrible. You start of wielding the ultra-powerful Gravity Gun, which was fun at the end of Half-Life 2, but had well outstayed its welcome by the game Episode One rolled around. Instead of any kind of awesome action sequence or atmosphere-building city tour, instead we are treated to a succession of puzzles that meander about until the plot picks itself up. Half-Life 2 was so well paced... but Episode One just... wasn't. It disappointed me. But it picked up Game of the Year from a few people, so hey, what do I know?
Tomorrow, we get a Who-related YouTube video, an anime scene that made me cry, and the game with the best graphics or art style.
